Eye2eye Britain and your new NGfL Broadband Network

Eye2eye Britain operates very smoothly over a school LAN, as it would over your broadband network right across your LEA.

Eye2eye Britain is a more powerful resource than can be provided across the web to ordinary browsers, with features such as one-piece interactive map of Britain, instant searching and hi-res screen-filling panoramas and photos. When you install it on a user's PC, 21MB of files, including specially written application, map and data tables are copied to that PC. This takes around 16 seconds over a 10MBit LAN, 80 seconds over a 2MBit broadband network (or less once copied locally).

Once installed, Eye2eye Britain uses data on the user's PC, plus its wealth of photos read across the network as needed. From the user's actions it predicts which photo he/she is going to look at next, loading and decompressing it in the background. This soaks up network delay to give (usually) instant response. You get the space saving of a central resource, with little user delay.

Benefits of an LEA-Wide Licence

A licence for your whole LEA - as included in some of the packages below - has advantages for all.

An LEA-Wide Licence extends the site licence terms to allow re-distribution between your schools of projects containing our copyright material. This enables new types of projects, with collaboration between schools (eg from town and rural locations) and/or competition betwen them to produce the best results. Teachers can exchange lesson plans containing it, too. Just the sort of results the NGfL aims for.
